Some Birthdays are harder than others

Soon I’ll turn 40.  I’m not a big age dweller but something about turning forty just doesn’t seem like something I want to celebrate.  The older I get the tougher the birthdays are and the smaller the parties.

Today I learned is Leah Freemans Birthday.  It put birthdays in perspective for me.  No more will I whine about turning a year older.

Leah Freeman was born on October 29th 1984.  On the 28th of June in 2000 Leah went missing.  Her slain body was found August 3rd 2000.  She had been murdered.Leah Freeman

Leah’s mother is Cory Courtright and is a member here at CSO.  She’s an incredible woman that will not stop until she knows what happened to her baby.  I first learned of the case here on CSO when I read an article from Tish.  You can read that Leah Freeman article by clicking here

Immediately after reading it I started digging around online to see what else I could find out about the case.  Cory was EVERYWHERE.  She’s a member to just about every crime site I’ve run into.  Articles about her and about Leah cover every corner of the Internet but still no answers, only questions.

You can read some of those questions and follow where the case is in the eyes of Cory Courtright here on our Leah Freeman Forum

You can read the Leah Freeman documents that have been released in the case here

Or you can visit a website set up by Cory for Leah at LeahFreeman.com

Today, Cory Courtright is asking local officials for help.  I found this on The Criminal Report Daily:

"I am simply asking Coos County District Attorney Paul Frasier to dedicate a cold case team to re-investigate Leah's murder," Cory said. "I don't feel like the agencies handling the case have ever been in sync, and with all of the personnel changes at the Coquille Police Department, I fear that crucial details of the investigation could very well have fallen through the cracks."
Cory says that the police were initially conducting a very active investigation into her daughter's case, but it seemed to cool down quickly, and she has received very few updates on the case in recent years.
According to the Coos County District Attorney's Office, the case is considered "cold," but investigators remain active, following up on all tips that they receive.
"They need to do more than follow-up on tips," Cory said. "They need to have a dedicated team go back and look through all of the files again, re-interview everyone involved, and re-examine all of the evidence."
There is no word yet on whether the Coquille Police Department will consider forming a cold case squad to reinvestigate Leah's murder.
Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact the Coquille Police Department at (541) 396-2114 or Coos Stop Crime at (541) 267-6666. Leah Freeman's family is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction of those responsible for her murder.

Note to Cory-

Whatever I or we here at CSO can do to help you in your fight for justice don’t hesitate to ask.  I realize today is difficult for you and my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Thank you YT ( and don't cry over that birthday, it doesn't hurt long.... lol ).
This is one case that defintely needs some answers. Bless her heart, Cory has just worked herself to death for only simple answers concerning Leahs death. Cory deserves real answers and Leah deserves justice. Cory, you are heavy on my heart today. I pray you are able to find someone willing to help you there locally. It is LONG past time that Leahs killer be brought to accountability.

Happy Birthday YT ! Happy Birthday Leah.

Thank you YT for raising Leah's issue and her birthday, Cory is such a beautiful soul and advocate for her daughter. Blessings to Leah and Cory & her family on this memorable day!

As far as your birthday, YT...being closer to 50 than 40 and learning more of life everyday, I say we celebrate every good reason along the way! And 40 is the last decade birthday that still feels young, as it IS at the heels of 39...which is only after the 20's....from here on out, it gets freaking murky...YOU GO and make the most of it, even in the midst of grief and loss, I sure hope that you raise a toast for all that you cherish and in celebration of YOU.

xoxo

There is some good news today in regards to Leah's unsolved murder - Investigation Discovery (ID to most of us) has released an article about Leah - which to my knowledge is the highest recognition this case has received as far as on a national news level - GREAT JOB to every one of you here at CSO who has actively brought this case to light. As many of you know, getting this case national attention has been a huge hurdle, and having talked w/ Cory in the past - I'm sure she feels that this is a huge victory and Cory, I hope beyond hope that this brings you one step closer to finding justice for Leah and having her killer pay for their crime.

Cory is long, long overdue on getting answers about her daughter. She will NOT give up until she gets those answers.

Thank you, YTTH, for the article.

As far as turning 40, if memory serves me correctly..that isn't until May so you have a ways to go. As a side note, the 40 decade is awesome. Enjoy it and savor it because IMO, it is when you really come into your own. I am giving you advice because I have a son your age..so in essence, I am old enough to be your mother.smilies/wink.gif

Wow, not sure how I missed this article and really feel bad about that smilies/sad.gif

Thank you YTTH for such a wonderful article on Leah's Birthday. I was lucky enough to be able to spend that Saturday with Leah's mother Cory, and let a Birthday balloon off in memory of her at the site where her precious body was found. My visit with Cory was LONG over due. She has a heart of GOLD and was so wonderful with my kids. They keep asking me when they can go back to their Clown friend Cory's house.. LOL.

Just want to say a bog TY for this post.

I also want to note that there has been another women that has come up missing in the same area where Leah's body was recovered. I will post a new thread on here, but wanted to update everyone who has followed this case as well. I am not saying that they are in anyway connected, but just wanted to get this gals name out there because she is missing!!!
